Dr. Jordan Johnson brings a kind-hearted, Midwestern demeanor and passion for eye care to the team at Robson Eye Institute in Florida. Settling in quite nicely to the Tampa Bay area, Dr. Johnson enjoys seeing patients at the Robson Eye Institute locations in Clearwater and Palm Harbor.
“The impact I can make in a person’s life is incredibly fascinating. Whether that’s fitting a multifocal contact for someone desiring to reduce their dependence on glasses, or finding a potentially serious condition ultimately saving a person’s life. Being an eye doctor certainly gives a variety of ways to help people,” Dr. Johnson said.
In addition to performing comprehensive eye examinations, Dr. Johnson has extensive experience in managing dry eye, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and corneal ulcers. He also provides cataract and refractive surgery consultations and co-management.
Dr. Johnson’s interest in eyes started as a senior in high school where he had the unique opportunity to shadow an optometrist a couple hours a day. During this time Dr. Johnson was able to observe the local optometrist and learn what truly goes behind eye care.
“This was a tremendously rewarding experience for me. Each day at the office I knew that I would meet at least one patient who would make me smile or give me something to reflect upon, and truly help me develop the patience and professionalism that are required in patient care.”
His passionate practice of optometry has led him through many states: Indiana, Kentucky, Florida, Alabama, and right back here to Florida. Previously, Dr. Johnson was an optometrist practicing in Dothan, AL. Throughout his earlier career, he held many prestigious internships, including an “externship” at the U.S. Army base in Fort Knox, KY.
“I made my way back to Florida because my wife is from here and we both enjoy going to the beach, year-around warm weather and ample activities to partake in,” Dr. Johnson said.
A graduate of Purdue University at Indianapolis with an undergraduate degree in chemistry, Dr. Johnson received his Doctor of Optometry at Indiana University.
“I have a lot of good memories from my time spent living in Indianapolis and Bloomington and it excites me to bring the knowledge I gained to the Central Gulf Coast. I always enjoyed the sciences because it pushes us to further our understanding of things and with medicine there is always something new to learn and the journey along the way is very exciting,” Dr. Johnson said.
In his free time, Dr. Johnson, his wife, Dara, and their dog, Molecule, enjoy spending time exploring the Florida outdoors including going to the beach, fishing and traveling.
